LIFESTYLE: BACK TO BASICS
We’ve been searching for happiness outside of us, and it’s actually inside of us. We create a life we love from the inside out; our external landscape is a direct reflection of our internal landscape.
We are now almost 2 weeks into 2015 . . . How are you all feeling // doing? I find it's SO easy to get carried away with endless goals, resolutions, 'must-do's instead of simplifying it ALL and coming back to the B A S I C S. Which is what I want to outline today.
Here are my T O P mainstays + rituals that I do / will embody.
Lets get back to the basics.
Mantra: Remember to begin each day with an intention, thought, meditation, repeating a personal mantra to bring about change and spiritual growth. For example, I have started saying to myself, “I choose happiness, love & abundance. I choose to see love instead of fear,” and I will repeat this little mantra to myself whenever I get overwhelmed and need clarity throughout the day. Simple, grounding and radiating.
Drink more water: Just do it! Drink water FIRST thing upon waking to FLUSH your system out. Warm lemon water is even better. I am for a minimum of 3 Liters a day and am making warm lemon water a DAILY habit. I ALWAYS drink a L of water upon waking, but want to get better with warm lemon water.
A juice a day keeps the doctor away: In the morning, I recommend drinking a juice with fresh ingredients, such as kale, apple, celery, cucumber, lemon and ginger. These fresh ingredients will make your skin vibrant, clear your mind, and add a sparkle to your skin!!!
Up the antioxidants: Nourish your body with foods in their most natural state that are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients. This will make your skin glow, and help you feel altogether lighter. But don’t skip the protein…! Also, download the new EWG Food Scores app which rates more than 80000 foods in a simple, searchable online format. AND whenever you can choose O R G A N I C.
Try meditation: At night, find a time to meditate in a quiet space for 10 minutes to bring clarity and peace to your inner self. You’ll be surprised how effectively this relieves stress, tension and anxiety. Doing this before bed will also help you fall asleep easier and more peacefully. We’ve all had those terrible nights when we can’t turn our mind off and we toss in turn in bed for hours and wake up feeling exhausted.
Beauty sleep: And on the subject of sleep, make sure to get more of it! This is the time when your body heals itself, inside and out. I know we are ALL busy, with our days scheduled down to the very minute, but it is just as important (if not more important) to schedule time for resting, rejuvenating, and cleansing. My optimal is 7.5-8.5 hours!
Exercise: I am aiming for ballet, ballet and more ballet :) And yoga, jump rope / boxing and HEAPS of walking! We all feel productive when we accomplish things at work, but how about feeling productive when we’ve accomplished things for our bodies and our health. Make exercise a priority this year!
Give back: This is really something I’m focusing on even MORE this year. I am going to try to give back to those I may not even know. Giving doesn’t have to be grand or glamorous, it just has to be significant and with love.
Take care of your SKIN - It's the only one you will get: It's also your largest organ that gets dismissed all the time. Dry body brush, exfoliate your face at least twice a week, weekly mask, SPF daily, rose water / hydrosol & a plant based organic oil. These are my non-negotiables. The Glow is created from within, but what we put ON our skin also plays a large role.
Sit up Straight: I've always had fairly good posture, but I do tend to slump, and hunch over. I'm going to be WAY more mindful of how I stand, carry myself and sit. Awareness and mindfulness in ANYTHING breeds enlightenment & growth.
Mindfulness & Peace: In every step . . .
Remember to be gentle with yourself. Love yourself, and take care of your inner and outer being.
