CLEANSING 101.

That is the question to be asked.

My person point of view: ABSOLUTELY to cleanse.

Especially now as we approach summer, I think this is the most pertinent time to flush out our systems and give our body a break - it works so hard for us! Be kind to it, it will only reward you with happy cells and a happy life.

I want to keep this short and simple, as I could ramble on about the biological, physical and psychological (nerd talk!) of why cleanses are beneficial and much needed for our bodies. But at the end of the day it is a simple recipe:

Our body needs time to repair, regenerate and quite simply it needs a mini vacation. It's not only the toxins that we ingest on a day to day basis, but the environment that we live in. The body has its own natural ability to cleanse, but that can become compromised by daily living and over-ingestion of sugar, salt, fatty foods, alcohol, and caffeine. Cleansing allows the body to reset itself so it can work as it’s meant to.

I see a cleanse as a reset, as our body uses SO much energy simply trying to digest the foods that we eat. Feel tired after a big meal? That is because your body is trying OH so hard to digest that food that you have just eaten. Digestion takes up the most energy out of any bodily function that our body performs.

Cleanse's could mean a whole array of things and aren't specifically allocated to a juice cleanse (although I am all for a good juice cleanse and do really love them), but could simply mean cutting out gluten, sugar, dairy, alcohol, processed foods and caffeine for a entire week ! I know you might think that is a bit extreme, BUT we forget that nature provides such an abundance of fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, legumes, quinoa, millet, beans, superfoods, sustainably caught fish,....It might seem impossible to comprehend because you might not want to admit it, but if you can't stop eating sugary processed foods then you are addicted to them. I've learnt through multiple studies that sugar is just as addictive as cocaine (true fact!), it's just that sugar is legal!

Ok, I have to stop myself here as I could ramble on! This is just something I am super, duper passionate about. Our bodies are miraculous gifts, and if we want it to last and treat us well then we have to take care of it - we are the ONLY ones in control of it.

I just want everyone to live a healthy, happy and loooong live.

When it comes down to it, it's not only the food - we have to make sure we are happy in our careers, relationships, our physical routines, and spiritual practice (whatever this may mean to you!). If these, our primary foods, are not in line, then NO way can the secondary foods (the actual foods) nourish our bodies.

Believe me, I am not perfect when it comes to diet, as I'm only human too! But I believe in whole foods and eating to glow from the inside out.

Phew - all this to say that come Friday, I will be embarking on a 3 day Juice Cleanse ! To re-set, re-boot and re-juvenate my body for the coming months. A new and INCREDIBLE juicery is opening up in my city (end of September) and I will be taking it for a spin.

I will be reporting back on the entire process and can't wait to share the journey with you.

Mind over matter.
