Onto a little post about aloe vera benefits and uses at home! Not only does aloe vera have many healing properties, it adds a lot of character “looks-wise” to any space. If you’re here reading this, then, like me, you care about your environment and how it affects you, your health, and everyone living there. Keeping home environments healthy, inspiring, and peaceful, and full of love is one of my major passions.

There are ways to bring nature indoors that can add to the aesthetic of your home and benefit you health wise. I do this by buying plants that are known to help purify the air, and plants that I can use. I also really want to get a diffuser to diffuse my essential oils for a natural scent for our place which helps build healthy immune systems, along with other health benefits. To be honest, I don't know why I don't have one yet? Anyone have any good recommendations for ones that are effective, yet look cool? ♥

When I’m not working, or writing, I love researching raw foods, herbs, healing modalities, practices, plants, their benefits, and ways to live more healthfully. I believe when we’re taking care of ourselves and using the resources given to us through the earth, we are living at our fullest, healthiest potential, which will benefit us as we get older. We can't load our bodies with toxins now, and expect a full and vibrant life into our old age. I don't know about you, but when I'm 80 I still want to be doing yoga, traveling, swimming in the ocean and spreading light and love. We as humans are meant to live to 125.

Back to Aloe...

The Egyptians had it right when they began to refer to the aloe vera plant as the “plant of immortality” due to its variety of healing properties.

This plant goes beyond just the pretty decor, this plant is hard core healing, and these are just a few of the many uses for the beautiful AV: 

1. Boil leaves in a pan of water and breathe in the vapor to alleviate asthma

2. Put in drinks to lower blood sugar levels—especially for diabetics

3. Put on skin for relief from sunburn, burns, bug bites, poison ivy

4. Use as lotion on skin and face to reverse signs of aging and wrinkles

5. Help eliminate eczema

6. Use an eye makeup remover

7. Replace conditioner with aloe for silkier, smoother hair

8. Aloe vera hydrates and soothes the skin, nourishes it and accelerates the regeneration of new skin tissue. By applying fresh aloe vera gel on your face, you can enjoy well moisturized, bright, glowing and flawless skin

9. Aloe vera stops blood cells from clumping together, which is one of the main causes of strokes

10. The anti-inflammatory properties present in aloe vera help get rid of acne and pimples when the gel is applied on the affected skin twice daily

11. Use as shaving cream. It’s antibacterial which helps heal nicks, and moisturizes skin.

12. Drink Aloe juice to relieve indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux, bloating, flatulence, peptic ulcers and constipation

13. Drinking aloe vera juice regularly gives the body a regular supply of antioxidants, which can boost and enhance the immune system

14. Aloe is an immune stimulant that helps kill tumors and invading organisms

15. Disease cannot live in an alkaline environment. Aloe vera alkalizes the body, helping balance overly acidic diets (when internally you’re body is overly acidic, cancer and disease thrive there).

How to incorporate it into your life: 

 I ingest this Aloe when my tummy isn't feeling so great, and I find when I was taking it consistently it made my skin glow like crazy!  If ingesting pure aloe makes your squimish, I fully admit it takes some getting used to, and can be quite bitter, add it into my berry glow below:

Aloe Vera Berry Smoothie Recipe

This is a smoothie recipe I use to put aloe vera in. You can’t taste the aloe and there are tons of health benefits!

-1.5 cups frozen berries (blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries)

-1 frozen banana fully ripe 

- 1 TBSP chia seeds

- As much water (or fresh coconut water) needed - I put 1-1.5 cups

- 1 cup aloe vera gel (fresh cut from the plant, not the kind sold for your skin) You can get these at health food stores! I believe Whole Foods sells them or alternatively, use 1/4 - 1/2 cup of the above concentrate. 

- 1/2 cup ice

- one spoonful of organic almond butter, pumpkin seed butter, cashew butter or coconut manna/butter (this adds next level creaminess)

Blend, and enjoy every last sip.
