I'm a massive fan of smoothies in the morning. Nine times out of ten it is my breakfast of choice, after I have my green juice for the day. I feel like a superwoman when I drink them, and load them up with ingredients that I wouldn't normally eat on their own (superfoods) and healthy fats and proteins to get my body's fire (aka metabolism) firing on all cylinders.

The problem with a lot of smoothies is that the fruit to greens to protein to healthy fats ratio is off balance. Too many smoothies go heavy on the fruit (fructose, sugars, blood sugar spikes) and skimp on the proteins + healthy fats (satiating, metabolism boosting).

Today I wanted to share my secret of the optimal ratio to the perfect smoothie. When you use this equation, so mathematical I know, you will never go wrong! The beauty of this is that you can sub different fruits and veg daily so you aren't drinking the same smoothie every morning, although that is never a bad thing. It's just always a good idea to rotate your produce to get an array of minerals, vitamins and nutrients.

Mix it up, play around and see what creations you can make!

The Perfect Wellness Smoothie Recipe

1 serving protein + 1 serving fiber + unlimited greens + 1/4 cup fructose + 2 tbsp. fat + liquid + superfood

Protein: Look for a clean sprouted vegetarian protein ( I like Raw Power) or an organic grass fed whey.

Fiber: Raw fiber powder, chia seeds, flax seeds or avocado are great choices.

Greens: Get creative, anything green!

Fruit/high-fructose vegetables: LOW GI (more of these) Berries, lemons, limes, grapefruits, kiwis, plums, pears, coconut meat HIGH GI (less of these) mango, banana, pineapple, watermelon . Frozen fruit is a best option to replace ice if you like your smoothie thick and chunky.

Fat: Avocado, coconut oil, MCT oil, nut or seed butter (I like pumpkin seed butter), walnuts, cocoa butter, or ghee at room temperature.

Liquid: Water, almond milk, coconut water and milk, cashew milk, Aloe Water, brazil nut milk (my favorite!), flax milk, walnut milk, hemp milk or cold-pressed green juice.

Superfoods: Green powder, collagen, turmeric, bee pollen, goji berries, raw gluten-free granola, cacao nibs, ginger, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, coconut flakes or meat, sea salt.

Play around, get messy, experiment, expand your horizons and sip your way to glowing skin and optimal health.

Happy Monday Beauties.
