RECIPE: ANTI INFLAMMATORY SMOOTHIE

Screen Shot 2015-05-12 at 3.54.22 PM Tis's the season for seasonal allergies, and our bodies trying to still get rid of the winter dullness & for some extra warmth aka weight! But with the summer season quickly approaching we all want to feel + look our best & most of all GLOW!

When we speak of anything that is going on in our bodies which elicits an outward symptom - ache, pain, runny nose, sore throat, stomach ache, flu symptoms, fatigue, headache, we are dealing with i n f l a m m a t i o n! Inflammation can happen outwardly, for example when you fall and scrap your knee, you can s e e the inflammation that is building, and it will usually produce blood or some form of outward display of irritated and inflamed skin. Take that picture that you have about a cut or scrape and turn it inwards. This is systemic and internal inflammation, the same outward expression that shows itself when you have an accident, is exactly what is going on with your body, you just can't see it!! That is why our society as a whole tends to ignore inner symptoms, and carries on with their day feeling sick, tired and in pain. Where the BIG problem starts to lie is when this systemic inflammation carries on for weeks, months, and even years leading itself to present itself as very serious illnesses, that we are all too familiar with, and I don't have to name names.

By BIG thing in my practice, and in my personal life is cooling + managing ALL inflammation in my body! Even when I'm feeling on top of the world, in terms of my health, I STILL focus on my acid / alkaline balance (I have a solid list here on which foods to focus on) which is key to managing inflammation. When we are eating a very acidic diet, inflammation in our body is going to breed like hot cakes! Where as a more alkaline, live-food based lifestyle, will produce a body and environment internally where inflammation will not even stand a chance.

In honor of reducing our inflammation for the upcoming season (and lets be honest forever!) no one wants a inflammed bod! I devised this smoothie for you to enjoy!

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY SMOOTHIE

1 cup berries of your choice (such as blueberries, raspberries, cranberries)
 - I like blueberries best.

1 compressed cup of leafy greens of your choice (such as kale, spinach)


2 inch (5 cm) piece of ginger


1 tablespoon unrefined coconut oil


1 tablespoon fresh chia seeds


1 cup of Green tea
 (brew some the night before and leave on the counter to use in the morning! Store in the fridge in a mason jar and reuse the next day for smoothies! It makes a brilliant base, and ups the antioxidant content like crazy)

1 date to sweeten if needed or 1/2 a frozen banana

Directions

Put all ingredients in a blender (add green tea according to your desired consistency).

Sprinkle with hemp seeds for an added protein kick, which is the macronutrient which tackles inflammation with a punch.

Drink immediately to enjoy the most nutritional benefits!
