RECIPE: ANTI-INFLAMMATORY TURMERIC LATTE
Tis' the season for warm mugs of bliss! I know people often run to their nearest coffee shop for pumpkin spice, gingerbread, eggnog, white chocolate flavored drinks to ring in the holiday season, but those can be sugarbombs in disguise and will usually make you feel the opposite of holiday joy.
This latte is not only intoxicating in flavor and smell, but it's anti-inflammatory properties are through the roof. All thanks to the miraculous spice turmeric. I know most of you are familiar with it, and are turmeric devotes just like myself, but some might not know that the component within turmeric, curcumin, is the power house of this magical root.
It is now believed that chronic, low-level inflammation plays a major role in almost every chronic, Western disease. This includes heart disease, cancer, metabolic syndrome, Alzheimer’s and various degenerative conditions and autoimmune disorders.
Therefore, anything that can help fight chronic inflammation is of potential importance in preventing and even treating these diseases.
It turns out that Curcumin is strongly anti-inflammatory, it is so powerful that it matches the effectiveness of some anti-inflammatory drugs. Here are just a small handful of why it is one of the best spices in the world:
-anti-inflammatory -therapeutic for autoimmune and neurological disorders and symptoms -suppresses symptoms of arthritis and multiple sclerosis -enhances wound healing (make a paste and rub over cuts and scars) -heals the liver -protects oxidative stress of the cells (oxidative stress is what causes aging and illness!) -improves brain functionality -lowers risk of all types of heart disease -it can help, and perhaps even treat cancer ( It can affect cancer growth, development and spread at the molecular level. Studies have shown that it can reduce angiogenesis (growth of new blood vessels in tumors), metastasis (spread of cancer), as well as contributing to the death of cancerous cells.) -useful in preventing and treating Alzheimer's Disease -studies show that has incredible benefits in treating depression -may help delay aging and all chronic illness
...and this is just some of its healing properties!
