Generally speaking, if the diet includes too many acid forming foods, such as high amounts of meats, grains, dairy, and sugars, the body becomes more acidic. If you eat too many alkaline producing foods such as greens, fruits, and sea vegetables, the body can become too alkaline.

My motto is always: Balance is key.

I always tell people that you can eat too much of anything, even greens!!

How To Improve Your Alkalinity

Check your pH regularly

Drink plenty of water (alkaline water when possible)

Remove acidic foods

Replace a traditional lunch with a large green salad

Use lettuce leaves and collard greens as wraps

Try not to consume processed foods

Eliminate soda, sugars, and coffee, and replace them with herbal tea, herbal coffee, and green drinks ( I still drink an americano a day, but just make sure to double up my hydration and eat more greens after!)

Replace dairy milks with coconut or almond milk

Add green juices or smoothies to your diet

What You Eat Matters

Improving pH levels may require a little more thought, but you’ll appreciate the rewards of your efforts as you begin to feel more energetic and vibrant and your overall health improves. Remember it's about balance though. You don't want to be 100% alkaline, as that's also not good. My salmon, sweet potatoes, quinoa, coffee and raw chocolate balance out the abundance of green juice, salads, veggies that I eat. Balance, balance, balance.

There is no question about it, what you eat has a direct impact on your overall health. It was Ann Wigmore, founder of the renowned Hippocrates Health Institute, who said, “The food you eat can be either be the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” I've used this quote for inspiration for a long time, but still know that for me balance (once more!) is key. I can't be super duper strict as there is not fun in that! Your lifestyle should revitalize you, not make you feel like you are imprisoned.

Below I made this hydrating, delicious and alkaline smoothie for you guys to try!

The Alkaline Monster

1 1/2 cups coconut water 1/2 avocado, pitted and peeled 1 cucumber, chopped 1 stalk celery, chopped 1 hefty knob ginger pinch sea salt

My suggestion is always to wake up, have water, drink something green and then have your coffee! Coffee should never be the first thing in your body as we already wake up very acidic due to the healing and regeneration that goes on while we sleep! Alkalize first thing, and your body will LOVE you for it.

Happy Weekend!

Love,
