Let's talk about Healthy Hair today!

Luscious locks. We all want them.

I am going to share a bit of my journey that was quite difficult for me to come to grips with, but for many years before I was diagnosed with my lets call it 'blessing in disguise', I hate calling it an illness or disease. I had MAJOR hair problems - most notably hair loss which was a HUGE side effect to what was going on in my body, and it initially really took a toll on my spirit.

Did you know the hair is the ABSOLUTE last organ/system to receive nourishment? So when something is not right in your body your body takes all the vitamins/minerals and antioxidants to make sure all vital systems are functioning, and your poor hair is left by the way side. I am not talking a few strands here and there, it was absolutely terrifying as I would take a shower, comb my hair and literally clumps of hair would be in my hand. I was devastated. I know it seems utterly vain, but I feel that ALL women out there find true comfort and beauty in their hair. I was extremely blessed to never have to do anything to my hair, and I had LOTS. Growing up I used Mane n' Tail - The shampoo with horses on the front, because yes I had a horse tail and used shampoo fortified for hair like horses. It still makes me smile and feel so lucky to have had lots of hair to begin with...

This went on for over a year and a half... and I lost over 1/2 of my head of hair! It was my bodies way of telling me and signally further that inside my body was fighting, fighting, fighting.

Luckily I knew what to do and upped my B vitamins like mad (especially Biotin), Evening Primrose Oil, GREENS (honestly juicing and power green smoothies are KEY), MSM, healthy fats (avocado, wild caught salmon), collagen and a few other herbs that I will briefly share below. My hair is FINALLY getting back to normal and it's regrowing like crazy! I have full faith that it will restore to its natural thickness and body.


ALOE - contains aloenin, a potential stimulant of hair growth

ROSEMARY - nourishes flaky & dry scalp and slows down premature graying & hair loss

SAGE - treats scalp infections, dandruff & oily hair problems. It is also said to lessen hair loss and restore hair color

WITCH HAZEL - improves blood circulation at scalp

PARSLEY - acts as a hair tonic for think hair and dandruff

You can either consume these foods or get them in essential oils. Take the essential oil and rub it into your scalp and let it sit for a few hours - then shampoo and condition like normal. You MUST be consistent with them, and most importantly NUTRITION, ADEQUATE REST & EXERCISE are key factors in this. Healing is never just one component, it encompasses all areas of life and there is no miracle cure for anything. It takes love, patience, self-care & self-love and truly healing from the inside out.

*** if you are experiencing more hair loss than normal I would seek the advice of a natural doctor or functional medicine practitioner - it could be your bodies way of signaling to you that something isn't right.

Most importantly listen to your body, what is it telling you, AS only YOU know your body and at the end of the day you are your own best doctor.
