INTERVIEW WITH PROFESSIONAL SOCCER PLAYER LANCE PARKER
I live by the philosophy that everything stems from within – beauty, happiness, a kind heart, strength, and after meeting Lance he exemplifies this to the fullest. Being a professional soccer player he truly understands what it takes to not only work extremely hard on the field, but the moments in-between, the organic vegetables, rest, juicing and nurturing yourself from the inside out first. All of this is, and can be just as critical to achieving great success. He also possesses the inner desire and understanding that to achieve your dreams you have to give it your all. He is a fabulous guy who will inspire you to live your life to the fullest, work HARD for what you want, and eat your green vegetables!
I know this is a loaded question, but tell us a little bit about yourself! I’m from Oklahoma City, OK, have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old, and still play today for Edmonton FC. I graduated, cum laude, from Missouri State University with a degree in Business then went on to play professional soccer in L.A. for Chivas USA for 2 years, then to Miami for a year, and have been up in Canada with Edmonton for the past 3 years. I model in my off-time, and I enjoy doing activities such as backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and hanging out with friends.
How did you get into soccer and how has it shaped the person you are today? I started playing when I was 4 years old and have loved the sport ever since. Playing soccer has taught me many different lessons in life, some being; how to work together with a team, if you want something you have to work hard for it, be accountable for your own actions, and that life isn’t fair.
What would you be doing if you weren’t playing soccer? If I had to stop playing soccer tomorrow, I would most likely focus full time on modeling and acting.
What motivates and inspires you to work harder, and to achieve your dreams and goals? Striving to meet my specific dreams and goals is what inspires me to work harder for them. I always have something that I am working towards, and once I achieve it, I set my sights on something else.
How do you have energy to endure your games, practices and workouts? Does nutrition play a large roll in this? Nutrition has a huge part to play in this, as well as having proper rest time in between all of them. The harder the workouts and practices, the more rest and recovery I will need, but following a good nutrition plan helps reduce that time.
Besides soccer what is your favorite sport/workout? I have really gotten into rock climbing and mountain biking. Rock climbing has actually been very beneficial to me as a goal keeper, because it helps to strengthen my hands, fingers, and forearms, which in turn helps with catching soccer balls.
What would we be surprised to find in your fridge? Vegenaise. This past year I have become very aware of what bad chemicals are being put in our food, and also how it is being processed. My body is my job, so I only want to put the best things in it. When I cook at home I always try to eat Vegan, and when out with friends I always look to find a vegetarian option.
Have you ever had a green juice/smoothie ? Yes! I actually juice every morning! I have experimented with many different types of juices. (ed. note - this makes me truly smile.)
Ultimate healthy meal? A salad with veggies, berries, and nuts, homemade tofu lasagna, and broccoli.
Ultimate decadent meal? Pizza and ice cream.
Favorite book? Anything that teaches me something new. I don’t enjoy reading unless it helps me gain knowledge about something or learn a new skill.
Greatest movie of all time? Gladiator
Top indulgence? DQ Cookie Jar Blizzard
3 things on your bucket list? Climb Mt. Everest, marry the girl of my dreams, and start a family.
Latest inspiration? The cookbook “Veganomicon” by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero. It has amazing vegan recipes that taste great!
Message you would like to send out to the world? Whether you are interacting with other people, animals, nature, or even yourself, be a selfless, kind, good person.
